About Samply sample holders

15 Jan 2023

Samply holders were designed through necessity by experienced researchers for cleaning large quantities of silicon substrates for sensitive fundamental applications.

About Samply sample holders

The design criteria for the samply sample holders were to be compatible with the existing lab equipment (standard beakers, hotplates, sonicators, and stirrer bars) in addition to standard lab reagents.

We developed the samply holders which are made from a chemically resistant material. The holders are stable for a range of temperatures (0-60C) and concurrently compatible with most solvents, acids, and alkalis. A full list of compatible chemicals.

Samply sample holders are manufactured in the UK with a focus on using emerging British technologies.

This knowledge base covers standard processes which are compatible with the samply holders. It is important to use processes optimized for the samply holders as parameters may differ from your existing process.

The range of samply sample holders (Samply 25, Samply 50 and Samply 100) is designed to fit into standard lab beakers (25ml, 50ml, 100ml) eg Fischer. Building on this design, these holders can take variable side substrates from 3mm upto 10mm. The samples being processed are not restricted to Silicon. For example, Samply holders have been used to clean anything from Saphire chips to copper foils.

Wafer scale processing is enabled using the 4″ samply sample holder. The frame supports standard 4″ wafers including p-type and n-type doped cuts. The 4″ samply allows for heated processing up to 60C. The holder also has enough clearance to use a suitable stirrer bar. Furthermore, the 4″ samply has been demonstrated to work well for solvent cleaning processes and for other more advanced fabrication processes such as KOH etching of silicon.
